Abstract:
Petru Poni was an important reformer of Romanian education, who worked in
the late 19th century early 20th century . He belonged to a generation of scientists who
assumed his responsibilities for the science, but also in the sensitive area of national interest
in education. This paper brings into focus through evidence taken from books, reviews,
correspondence and photographs, the teacher personality which led the discipline of chemistry
at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University Iasi, between 1878-1925, he being considered today,
rightly, one of the founders of chemistry higher education in our country.
